Understanding Roman Numerals
Roman numerals use seven letters: I (1), V (5), X (10), L (50), C (100), D (500), and M (1000).
The Subtractive Principle
If a smaller number appears before a larger number, it is subtracted. For example, IV is 4 (5 - 1) and IX is 9 (10 - 1). The maximum standard number supported is 3999 (MMMCMXCIX).
