What is the FOIL Method?

FOIL is an acronym used in algebra to help remember how to multiply two binomials together, such as (x + 2)(x + 3).

The Acronym

  • First: Multiply the first terms in each parenthesis.
  • Outer: Multiply the outer terms.
  • Inner: Multiply the inner terms.
  • Last: Multiply the last terms.

Finally, you combine the "Outer" and "Inner" like-terms to get your final quadratic equation.
