The Role of Density

You cannot convert directly from kilograms (weight/mass) to liters (volume) without knowing what the object is made of. The "Density" (how tightly packed the matter is) bridges the gap.

The Formula

The formula is Volume = Mass / Density. If you have 1000 kg of a liquid that has a density of 0.8 kg/L, it will take up 1,250 Liters of space.
